December Digestion!

It is the time of year for wonderful food to be served with parties galore. Diving right in comes as second nature, but, taking a moment to rest and relax prior to eating will make an enormous difference to our minds and bodies for effective digestion which will allow your body to properly assimilate nutrients and prevent you from going overboard at the company party.

Try taking one moment to get your body in it’s parasympathetic state (ie. rest & relax) mode and consider the “Three C’s” before a meal:  Cheers, Chill and Chew.

Cheers: The very first step in the digestive process starts with the brain! Relax and raise your glass and say “Cheers!” This will help your mind and body prepare itself for the next bite of food that’s coming its way.

Chill: Proper digestion happens when your body is in a parasympathetic state. Sit back, relax and enjoy the meal. Think, “rest and digest.”

Chew: Chewing helps create salivary enzymes that will break down the food in the body body. Chew each bite 20-30 times. For an extra challenge, put the fork down in between bites to slow down the process.
